Sirius’ guide to making the most from the new cleaning/brushing/feeding! Siriusly!

As posted on the Playfish Forum on the 18th of January! ;)

Hey villagers!

Sirius has heard grumblings amongst the ranks, so she’d like to help everyone out with a few tips after the recent cleaning / brushing / feeding variations that allow us all to earn more coins!!

What’s changed? Well, now when brushing or cleaning your pet (and others’ pets) you earn 10 coins each time the stats go up (instead of a chance at 1 or 2 coins as it was previously). And, while offline your stats drop a bit more than they used to (but while playing they drop a bit less than they used to).

In Sirius’ experience over the last few days, this means that she is able to earn around 130 coinsfrom brushing (with hand) and cleaning a completely unhappy and dirty pet! (Previously she may have earned 16 coins unless she was really lucky.)

What does all of this really mean? Well say Sirius’ owner hasn’t logged in for a little over a day (unlikely, but as an example), she may find Sirius with half her stats (health, happiness and hygiene) decreased. So she washes and brushes her, earning around 60 coins, then well she need to feed her. So she grabs a prepared vegetable soup out of her chest (cost 17 coins), or puts a vege soup on to cook (costs 17 coins) and waits 10 minutes before collecting and feed it to Sirius. Result 99% in all stats, and a profit of 60-17 = 43 coins!

Before the update, Sirius may have only been around one third decreased on all her stats, leading to perhaps 4-6 coins from brushing and feeding, and costing 2 apples (10 coins) to fill. Result 99% in all stats and a loss of 4-6 coins.

Now the above is a best case scenario, being feeding vegetable soup; but Sirius has heard that some pets don’t like cooking, so let’s look at this in terms of buying some cheap food from the food store! Remembering we have earnt around 60 coins from washing and brushing Sirius if we’ve left her for around a day, but her health is half empty, we could feed her 1 meatball (45 health each, 15 coins each) and 1 apple (15 health each, 5 coins each) to get her to 99 health. So this would be a total cost of 20 coins to fill to 99% health, giving a slightly lesser profit of 60-20 = 40 coins!

Vital tipAvoid feeding homegrown fruit, you can sell it for 65 coins (or more in some cases) and use that to cook the vegetable soup or buy the metballs / apples / other store food.

Other things to note, not only are these increased coins for brushing and washing your pet, but also for brushing and washing other unhappy and dirty pets. So when you are out visiting, brush and wash a few pets who need it, and you are even further in front (especially if you have some completely dirty and unhappy friends like Sirius does, as they can earn you around 130 coins each)!

Dispelling the rumours:

  • Just because you see your pet dirty, hungry and unhappy when you sign in, even if you saved while your pet was fully clean, fed and happy, this is not how visitors (friends and cafe visitors) see your pet! They will view your pet as per the last save of your game (which while you are offline is your last save and quit), so they will see your pet as clean, fed and happy as you left it, and not think you’ve deserted your pet!
  • The paw points for feeding pets have not been decreased. You need to have your pet (or the pet you are feeding) completely happy (green bar full) to receive the full 17 paw points, this is how it’s always been.

Happy playing!
